RESOURCE CONSERVATION IS A RIFFE HUNTING PHILOSOPHY.
In Jay’s days of participating in spearfishing competitions, he eventually felt sorrow by the amount of fish that were taken, both large and small. Jay recognized the devastating effects. There would be none left for the future generations. This shaped his vision to adopt the practice of taking only what is needed for consumption.

“All divers should protect the waters they swim and hunt in, ensuring future divers the experience and excitement of freediving that I’ve had over the past seventy years. I strive to produce high quality, spearfishing and diving equipment capable of handling any condition."

"Selective Divers set their sights on those few prize fish for consumption. Be Selective, Fish for the Future.”  – Jay Riffe

The best dive knife you can buy

I have had my wrangler since 2020 and it has been fantastic.

Here are the reasons I love this knife and the reason I recommend it:

-Its a full tang knife, that makes this knife strong enough to put up with a lot of punishment. I use this knife constantly to gather rock scallops.

-The 4.5 is long enough to bleed out most tunas with a heart puncture behind the peck fin.

-The serrated side is great for sawing even when the knife gets a little dull. I.E. gilling and gutting fish.

-Easy to sharpen and holds a edge well. If you use the knife a lot it will need it eventually, but noting in my kit except my Riffe speargun has lasted 5 years + of constant use.

-The sheath and LANYARD. The sheath is a simple design and easy to use. However the lanyard is the reason I have yet to loose this thing! When you stick the knife in its sheath you take the stretchy lanyard and loop it over the tip of the sheath keeping it from accidentally falling out, simple and works so well. Also when you are wrangling a fish you shot I put the lanyard over my wrist. If you drop the knife it hangs while you can use your hands, and its a big stretchy loop so if it did get stuck in something its easy to free yourself from.

The shaft retrieval notch works if you are hole hunting and get a shaft stuck. But it also works for holding a shaft while tightening on tips or while bending to tune floppers.

The meatal butt of the knife works for smashing stuff and making noise under water. (Like a tank banger if…

Hey Richard - We're absolutely stoked to hear your Wrangler 4.5 has been such a reliable workhorse for you over the past 5 years! It's awesome to hear how you're putting every feature to work - from the full tang construction holding up to rock scallop gathering, to that lanyard system keeping it secure during those intense fish wrangling moments. Your detailed breakdown of how the serrated edge, shaft retrieval notch, and even the metal butt all serve their purposes really shows you know your gear inside and out. Thanks for the incredible review and for being part of the RIFFE family for all these years! All the Best.

Hey John - Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Wrangler 4.5 Dual Serration. We appreciate the suggestion about titanium - while we stuck with our current material for specific performance reasons, we're always open to hearing what our customers would like to see. We're stoked you're enjoying it overall! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Probably the best short knife for spearfishing.

The blade, handle and sheath are well-designed. Cheaper options are fine but this is the best I have used.
